Euro rises on dollar to $1.2914………………….
FRANKFURT, Germany - The euro rose against the dollar on Thursday, the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., as new data showed unemployment in Germany continuing to fall in November.
The euro rose to $1.2914 in morning European trading from $1.2899 late Wednesday in New York.
Germany’s Federal Labor Agency said Thursday the country’s unemployment rate dipped to 7.1 percent in November from 7.2 percent in October. That suggested that the economic crisis has yet to hit the labor market in Europe’s biggest economy _ but experts expect it to do so in the coming months.
The British pound was up to $1.5416 Thursday from $1.5350, while the dollar bought 95.17 Japanese yen, down from Wednesday’s level of 95.65 yen.
Currency trading is expected to see lighter volumes Thursday as U.S. markets are closed for Thanksgiving.
